$HC auction starts on Tuesday

I've decided to start offering knits at Pumpkin Pie Baby because a lot of people prefer knit to crochet and I personally enjoy both knitting and crocheting. Plus, I like how differently yarns look knitted or crocheted, and I like the option of offering both.

Back in November, I traded with Burgh Baby Gear for 2 skeins of her "Cherry Tart" colorway. I used 1 skein to knit up these capris:

I'm happy with how they came out, but they've got little imperfections that keep me from wanting to offer them at full price. Which brings me to my first ever $HC auction. Starting on Tuesday, I'll be putting these capris up for $HC auction. The winner can use up to 100% $HC. If they don't have a lot of $HC, they can always use $HC to pay part of the winning bid and contribute paypal toward the rest.

Spotlighting The Felted Sheep

So I have a problem with yarn. My problem is that I have a very difficult time not buying yarn, even when I know I have more than enough to keep me knitting and crocheting for months. I'd love to try an experiment where I don't buy anything until I've used up every last bit I have, but I wouldn't make it, so I won't try.

I'm bringing up my problem because I've just discovered The Felted Sheep. The Felted Sheep offers felted items, including hand bags, but also handspun and dyed yarns. And these yarns are absolutely gorgeous! This yarn reminds me of a shiny, delicious granny smith apple.

The Felted Sheep is on both Etsy and Hyena Cart. Right now, she's got her handspun yarns listed on her Etsy shop, and if I just had some extra money right now...

Here is some roving she's got available. What I find really interesting is that if you like some roving but don't know how to spin, she'll spin it for you!

Spotlighting The Enchanted Nursery

Next up in our focus on other WAHMs is The Enchanted Nursery. Her newest product is a Night Owls wool All In Two. It's a trim fitting wool diaper for nighttime use. Trim fitting is important! When I've cloth diapered my daughter at night, she's been so heavily layered in cloth that she looks like Ralphie's little brother in A Christmas Story.

As I was reading her blog, I realized that she designed her own banner and logo for her Night Owls. I had seen her banner running on Hyena Cart, and I remember thinking how nice it looked. So not only is this mama talented at making diapers, but she also does nice design work! Here's the logo she came up with:

Spotlighting The Cloth Canoe

As part of a way to highlight other Hyena Cart stores, several of us with blogs will be spotlighting other WAHMs (work at home moms).

Genevieve at The Cloth Canoe offers fitteds and AIOs. Her diapers are turned and topstiched and feature side snaps. She just began offering minkee bamboo velour prefolds this week. She stocked this prefold this week at the Wonderful World congo but, not surprisingly, she's all sold out!

Her Twilight Canoe fitteds are night time fitteds and are all organic. Starting in February, all of her fitteds will contain hidden layers of organic bamboo cotton fleece only. Here's a picture of my favorite fitted from her gallery:

adding knitted longies!

I love to knit, and I love new projects, so I'm adding knit longies! This is the first pair that I'm selling below and I'm really happy with them. They were knit with the "Alice" colorway by Three Irish Girls. The colorway is on beautiful lindon merino. It's so soft that it's easy to think that you're knitting with cotton and not wool. It's also heavier than your typical worsted weight wool so it's just a pleasure to work with. I used the Belladonna Designs pattern for the longies. These longies go on sale Friday, January 4th, on the BnB congo on Hyena Cart.

I've also crocheted a matching tea cup. I would have made two, but I ran out of yarn.

I know some people prefer the look of knit to crochet, but this colorway looks gorgeous both ways!

Stocking on January 1st

I've decided to "re-open" my Hyena Cart store so I'm stocking on Tuesday, January 1st. For all of January, you can pay for shipping using $HC. I'll be stocking the first and third Tuesdays of every month from now on.

A visit to a yarn store

I very rarely get to visit a yarn store by myself. I almost always have 1 (and usually 2) children with me. My most recent visits to yarn stores have been disasters now that my youngest is walking, talking, and yanking things off shelves. We visited a store last month only to have my daughter knock over their coffee accessories shelf (cups, stirrers, etc) and pull down just about every button they had on display. It was my fault. I should have put her in a stroller but I was lazy. I'm now very nervous about returning there.

So I ventured to a different yarn shop today, The Yarn Sellar, nervously hoping I'd have a more successful trip. And by more successful I mean that my daughter wouldn't tear the store apart or start screaming. So I brought a stroller this time and a box of animals crackers. And it worked! I had to move fast but I got my shopping done. And the two times I've visited this store, the women who work there have been friendly, helpful and, most importantly, not put off by my children. In fact, the women have made my children and me feel welcome. And today Keane was on the CD player, so the trip was that much more enjoyable.

One more thing: the store had a beautiful hat and pair of booties on display. When I asked about the pattern, the woman gave me these links: "suede" booties and "suede" baby hat. Now I just need someone I know to have another baby!
